ABOUT

HISTORY

"Heartland aims to entertain, educate, inform and encourage local participation"

"Best radio station by a long way! THE most eclectic range of music you will ever hear!" - Simmo Jester, 2018

"This is the best radio station in the UK where else can you hear Sam Cook, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, Jackie Wilson and then the Clash singing White Man in Hammersmith Palais great stuff" - Tom Docherty, October 2012

Heartland FM was established in 1991 and after local fundraising reached £32,000 the station began broadcasting at weekends in 1992. Eventually Heartland FM became a full-time local radio service for Highland Perthshire  transmitting on 97.5 MHz FM from a studio base in Pitlochry. At the time the station was Britain’s smallest independent local radio station with 50 volunteer presenters.

With community radio stations typically having a life span of around 7 years Heartland FM is a testament to those who have worked for the station and is now Britain's longest running community radio station.

Today a small team have continued to work to help re-invigorate the station for future years to come. We aim to provide a mix of engaging, entertaining and novel music/programmes for our listeners.

Still based in Pitlochry Heartland FM now broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to around 15,000 people across Highland Perthshire on 97.5 FM and also online. In-car 97.5 FM reception is possible over a wider area to include most of Perth. Please feel free to pop in and say hello to us - we are always looking for new volunteers.
