Trustees.

Graham Huggins

CHAIRMAN

I joined the Board of Heartland FM in July 2016 at the request of the then Chairman Douglas Craig. The Station at that time was going through a difficult period both financially and operationally.

I became Chairman in November 2016 and decided that a radical plan was required to save this valuable asset to our community involving a complete change of personnel and direction.

It has taken us eighteen months of total commitment but we are at last achieving our goal of re-establishing ourselves as the leading community owned and community focused station in the country.

We have managed to assemble the foundation of an excellent team and with our new partners at DC Thomson look forward to continue the development of Heartland FM.

FUNDRAISING

I was appointed to Heartland FM by Perth and Kinross Council in an advisory role in 2008. Much has happened in the intervening years and I was delighted to be invited to become  a Trustee in my own right when I retired from the Council in May 2017.

This new era for Heartland FM promises to be an exciting one but we must reinvigorate
our links with the folk of Highland Perthshire. As a community station reaching out to all ages and interests is vital to our success. Volunteering is a basic component of a community radio station and I hope that I can help to encourage more enthusiasts to become involved in Heartland FM

I hope also local businesses will support Heartland FM with sponsorship and that individuals may feel they can play their part too in supporting the UK ‘s oldest
Community Radio Station - Heartland FM

MEDIA

For most of my life I have been a journalist, firstly editing a local paper in North London and then as an investigative reporter for national newspapers including The Sunday Times. As a freelance I made TV documentaries, and have written five books. I also worked for Radio 4. In a voluntary capacity I recently helped launch and then edited The Heartlander magazine – covering Highland Perthshire. I joined Heartland FM with a keen interest in improving its local news coverage, and supplementing this when finding permits with an online local news journal.
